The translation field is extensive and has been a focus of studies over time; however, the rise of streaming brought new research opportunities. Considering this, the current study aims to comprehend the translation field, exploring cultural inference and the subtitling process on practice. To this end, data from audio-visual content were collected, which were then analyzed based on their characteristics, classifying them as conservative or substitutive (Aixelá, 1996), also considering variables of nationality and formality of the contents and the characteristics of English. Through the study, it was possible to contribute to the general understanding of translation and the explanation of its importance in the perception of the viewer.
